"Here fishy fishy"

For the past few months especially, Heidi and I have been a lot less active online for fun reasons. We have been focusing more of our time on our hobbies, especially those that are more seasonal. I feel quite guilty that I haven't been sharing that with you all! So without further delay....

I confess! We have been fishing! Well at least that is some of what we have been up to. Notice, however, that I didn't say "we have been catching".

Yeah, those illusive fishies are still swimming around in the beautiful streams of the Olympic Peninsula without much reel(pun intended) danger from us.

I should speak for myself I guess. They were not in danger of me catching them. My focus really has been on finally learning to use my fly fishing gear that I have been hauling around for a few years now.

I grew up up using more familiar open face reels and weighted lures but something about fly fishing seems more interesting to me these days. Maybe I just watched "A River Runs Through It" a few too many times! Whatever it is, I really have been enjoying learning it so far.

Heidi, for now at least, is still using an open face reel and actually catching some little fish. Very ambitious little fish considering they have been very close in size to the lures she has been using! She has had a lot of fun too.

The fish will find their way onto our grill eventually! Until that happens, it's a good thing we enjoy pizza!

  1. Brings up fond memories of my Father and I catching catfish. What a great and simple way to enjoy life.
Nice picture showing everything a fisherman needs in a small and lightweight package, too! It's a great reminder that many hobbies don't need to be burdensome with tools.

  2. That sounds wonderful! I've been wondering what you and Heidi were up to these days. Using a net is waaaaay better than surfin' it.

  3. Glad to hear you guys are out there living instead of hooked up to a machine (aka computer). If it's not something you would want in your later years, then why would we want to do it as young folks? hmmmmm....

I caught a fish once, put it in a bucket full of water to deal with the next day (neither of us was looking forward to killing it) and a racoon ate it in the middle of the night :) Problem solved! Now I buy my fish at Costco!!! LOL!

  4. Thanks for the fun comments!

Hi Wander, Very cool about the memories! I have some great ones with my Dad when I was little catching bass out on the little ponds on our property. Always fun to think back to those times! I agree too about the fishing being a very portable hobby. When all packed up, the gear in that picture takes up very little room but has enough in it to handle a wide variety of fishing spots.

Ha Kim, Would have been better if we actually needed a net LOL! Next time!

Hey Nellie, At least you can say you were helping a racoon eat well!

  8. Good morning! I like fishing as well. However, the pizza looks so delicious. Currently, they have me sitting in the doctors office waiting for labs to be drawn and I'm ready to chew off an arm! Please pass a piece of that yummy looking pizza over this way! :)
